In a world-first, WA researchers are trying to stop type 1 diabetes from developing in very young children by picking up red flags before symptoms appear.
Children's Diabetes Centre scientists, based at Telethon Kids Institute, are examining the use of continuous glucose monitoring in babies and toddlers at high risk of developing type 1 diabetes because of a family history.
They believe that months or years before symptoms appear, young children can have abnormal blood sugar levels and this could be a crucial time to intervene and prevent the condition.
