Kids living with Type 1 Diabetes got to hang out with super heroes and like-minded peers at the Diabetes WA and Princess Margaret Hospital (now known as Perth Children’s Hospital) kids’ camp in Bicton recently.
Thirty-six 11 and 12-year-olds enjoyed a host of activities and physical challenges including abseiling, flying fox, arts and craft and a disco in an environment where having Type 1 Diabetes is the norm rather than the exception.
Professor Liz Davis, a paediatric endocrinologist at Perth Children’s Hospital and co-director of the Children’s Diabetes Centre at Telethon Kids Institute, said the camp aimed to provide children with new skills and confidence in managing their diabetes in a variety of environments.
The super-hero-themed event was held at the Point Walter Recreation Camp.
