Groundbreaking WA app hopes to help people with diabetes exercise safely
“I go sweaty. I’ll be shaking a lot. My heart is pounding. I can’t really breathe. I’ll go a bit cranky.”
This is how Gina Latimer describes a hypoglycaemic attack.
The 12-year-old was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes four years ago. She is one of 160 WA children diagnosed with the chronic autoimmune disease every year.
Gina is among young diabetes sufferers in Perth who have helped to develop and will test a world-first smartphone app, developed by researchers at teh Children's Diabetes Centre at Telethon Kids Institute and Perth Children's Hospital, to help all people with type 1 diabetes exercise safely.
